Railay is stunning. Simply put you’ll find yourself in awe of the limestone cliffs and rock formations as you disembark from the taxi boat you likely took from Ao Nang. I chose to stay at the Krabi Forest Homestay, with an affordable private room, a short tuk tuk or walk from the main drag. Ao Nang also offers some nicer places that won’t break the bank, such as the Panan Krabi Resort, where a friend of mine was staying and offered a few pools and nice patios to lounge on after a day in the sun. You can of course also stay on Railay if you choose, which will allow you to make the most of your time there should you choose to become a beach bum for a day or two, or more!

When arriving, the taxi boat will drop you off at Railay West Beach which although is great, won’t be where you want to spend the majority of your day. Head on over to the other side to Railey East Beach and follow the trail to Phra Nang Beach. On your way there, make sure to stop at a shop if you want some beach side beers, since your only options once you’re there will be from expensive beachfront restaurants. Once at Phra Nang Beach, you’ll be able to have amazing views and clear waters. Make sure you’re there during high tide since low tide brings muddy shores.

When heading back, keep in mind that taxi boats will charge you a premium as soon as the sun is set, and you also risk paying more if they can’t fill their boat.
